Photo courtesy of MAC cosmeticsAfro’s have been getting a lot of attention recently. Maybe you haven’t but as a blog dedicated to Afro’s/ style, I thought I’d give a recap of the fiercest afro’s making headlines this summer.

#3: First off, the new M.A.C. cosmetics campaign features a fierce perfect spiral do’ in their promotional ads aimed at the new line of colors also called the Style Warrior make up line. The bold hair really tied in the jungle animal theme they’ve got going but the spirals are a little too perfect for my taste.

#2: Second place goes to Ciara for her afro in her new music video for her current single, “Love Sex Magic” featuring Justin Timberlake. Ciara really stepped up the theatrics for this video with extravagant light set ups, leopard body suits, studded corsets and of course, the biggest attention grabbing ploy of all, Justin Timberlake himself.

#1: First place goes to my favorite gal Beyonce Knowles for her perfectly tamed afro in her recently released music video for her single “Ego.” Why does her afro take first prize? Well that’s because her afro is literally part of the act in her video. Yes it’s obviously not the main attraction in the video, but her afro still plays a vital part in her dance sequence. The video which was co-directed by Beyonce herself,  also has her lovely backup dancers wearing the same do.

Honorable Mentions go to: Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga graces the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in what some would consider an depoufed afro. Maybe it’s a stretch to consider her do for the cover “afro-worthy” but I commend Lady Gaga for continuing to pave her own trail with fashion/ style and hair.
