Actually, if the new President is working on a five day work schedule like the rest of the country, he’s only been in office for three full business days.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the newly appointed President. But I can admit when my enthusiasm needs to be met with a healthy amount of skepticism in order to make objective observations about his administration. Journalists, after all, need to be objective in order to do the the public service they are trained to do: keeping politicians and those in power, accountable to their promises.

Now there’s a online publication dedicated to tracking Obama’s progress on new Obama-Biden administration. The St. Petersburg Times developed an Obamameter where the President’s record 510 campaign promises are outlined and measured using terms like: “promise kept,” “compromised,” in the works,” “stalled,” “no action,” or “promise broken.”

According to this meter, the President has already kept five of the promises he made on the campaign trail and is recorded to be “in the works” on another 14 issues. Apparently the president is at a gridlock for promise #505, creating a $3000 tax credit companies that add jobs.

As of today, the president has no recorded promises broken but we can be sure that the revolving door of acclaim will make its way around and the president will be faced with tough issues and an even tougher opposition. If the majority of the 510 campaign promises are met, I don’t think anyone can claim that the campaign slogan for Change was an ill-intentioned rhetoric.
