Last night’s Golden Globe awards brought Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire four awards including best drama, best original score, best screenplay and best director. The Bollywood inspired film that follows a kicked-to-the-curb orphan from Mumbai made quite an impression on Hollywood this season but no one was as surprised as Boyle himself.

“They have this expression _ which I hope I pronounce correctly _ in Hindi, which is when you do something, you should do it from the heart,” Boyle told the Huffington Post backstage. “The film was made from the heart, and we never expected to be here, and it’s incredible that we are.”

The movie not only received recognition for talented direction but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association also honored Indian music director A.R. Rahman for his work on Slumdog. Rahman became the only Indian to win a Golden Globe and thanked the billions of people in India during his acceptance speech. Oh yeah, he also thanked M.I.A. for her work on the film, specifially for the collaboration for “O… Saya”.

“I think if it’s a good film, it’s like a beautiful girl, whatever you put on her, it’s just complementary. A good film demands its own score and if you are a musician, your conscience will never allow you to do something mediocre for a good film.” (India Times)

Other notable wins include the lovable Woody Allen film, Vicky Christina Barcelona, which won best Musical or Comedy. The Association also honored the late Heath Ledger for his work in the Dark Knight and Wall-E for best animated film.

And the fashion wasn’t bad either!

Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried in Stella McCartney

Brangelina (Brad in Tom Ford and Angie in Atelier Versace)

Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto in Christian Lacroix Haute Couture

Beyonce herself in Elie Saab Haute Couture

Cameron Diaz in Chanel Haute Couture

The fabulous Eva Mendez in Christian Dior

Mad Men’s January Jones, in Versace

Drew Barrymore in Dior Haute Couture (I love the dress but, like everyone else, wish the hair didn’t look like a bird’s nest)

Rumer Willis in Reem Acra (I loveeeee this dress outfit so much although I don’t really know what business she has at the Golden Globes)

And no best dressed list would be complete without Heidi…

Both are wearing vintage James Galanos. (Ok I’ll admit that her dress isn’t my favorite but it looked better on tv)

Freida Pinto is gorgeous. That’s all I could think throughout Slumdog. I think it might win Best Picture Oscar. It seems primed too. And you forgot to mention that Kate Winslet won both Best Actress AND Best Supporting Actress. Insane!

Oh, and Rumer Willis was the girl that shuttled people on and off the stage. (Like, for real.) So that’s why she was there…

God I’m glad you posted this. I missed seeing it live, but now I feel like I was there, 🙂
