Hey I Like your Afro

It’s not quite an Afro but…

Marc Jacob’s intensely accessorized Spring ’09 Ready to Wear Luis Vuitton show in Paris had more than huge accessories and wide shoulders. It’s not quite an afro but the frizzed out bangs sure made a statement. Thoughts?

It’s that time of year again.

December rolls out those “best of” countdowns posted on every conceivable topic possible to mark the highlights of the passing year. Most of the time, these countdown are at the most amusing and at the least, incredibly annoying and inaccurate. But my newest favorite blog, Booooooom.com (that’s seven O’s) started by Vancouver based designer Jeff Hamada, posted a countdown of the top 5 music videos of 2008 that I could not stop watching.

Rarely do I find myself actually enjoying the top prize winner choice but I could not get enough of this music video.

Maybe it’s the smartly dressed monkeys. Or maybe it’s the afro cameo made by the lead singer’s makeup artist. Or maybe it’s the dancers dressed in white in the dessert. Whatever it is (besides impossible to understand. I think he’s singing in German) it’s fun to watch.

For those of us who aren’t quick to hug those annoying furry things

I think it’s no secret to those that knows me, that I am not much of a nature/ animal nut. I don’t oooh and aawwww for someone’s pet hamster or those lion cubs on animal planet. I can’t stand birds or squirrels for that matter. Actually the only animal I really like are dogs and that all models after my own dog Benji.

Finally someone who not only shares my views on those furry creatures but who is dedicated to tell those animals what’s up.

This is probably the funniest blogs I’ve seen in a long time.
Personal favorite post: Squirrels that try to be productive members of society can suck it

I left DC this week and made it safely back to Orlando, Florida to join my family for the holidays. Safe to say, it was an incredible semester living in the District and I can’t believe how much I learned about myself. It hit me this morning that I had to actually refer to my memories to relive the simple things I was so used to doing every day. I can no longer take a walk to the metro again or run up the stairs in our apartment building to see what a friend is up to. These realities that were my life for the past four months will only exist in my memories from now and it makes me sad. I miss it already.

Leaving DC scared me on a few levels. One, I didn’t want to come to terms with the fact that once we all left DC, we would probably never be together in one city ever again. Secondly, I was scared that I would start to disconnect from news and culture after I left the information capital. DC became a personal hub of creativity and information and I didn’t know how I would stay tuned in without the motivation of such a dynamic city. Even concerning matters related to style and street fashion. Orlando, in my opinion, is pretty dry when it comes to fashion.

But I found this today and I think it will help. Finally an online compilation of the biggest photo sites dedicated to street fashion. This site rocks and from what I can tell, is updated pretty often.

So far, no afros have come up but I’m sure there are plenty buried in the individual blogs.
